Homage to the 'nightingale of india'

source: indiatrends.comLeading Carnatic music exponent, also affectionately known as 'Nightingal of India' - MS Subbulakshmi (biography) passed away last week, bringing an end to an era in carnatic music. With a career spanning 5 decades she remains one of the most talented and enigmatic artise that the world has seen yet.

Having cut her first record with HMV at the age of 10, her journey to the a household name in India was swift. Known as "MS" for short (her full name is Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi) - she was known to have moved the great mahatma gandhi and the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru to tears with her rendition of "Vaishnava Janato".

Honoured with uncountable numbers of national and international awards - she remains as one of the best there was.

My deepest homages to such a great soul - go in peace
