How to elect a president?

It's that time of the year when India gets a new president. With current and out-going president Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam becoming one of the most-loved presidents of recent times, the newly elected candidate is going to have some big shoes to fill.

But wait a minute, if he's so good, why can't he have a second term in office? I would surely like him to. But do the people who have the power to vote for his office want him to have a second term? Well, that may not be so easy to answer.

Anyway, the reason for this post is to share this article by rediff on this very topic titled "It's the politicians who elect the president, stupid!" by sheela bhatt. This article because it not only gives you an overview of how the Indian president is elected, but rather why the chances of Dr. Kalam being re-elected are slim.

Common sense says that Dr. Kalam is the best candidate - we've already seen what he can do. But then .. we'll have to wait and see ;-)
