About Indian Surnames and the British Influence

It all started with a discussion on some comical surnames. How certain surname (or last names) seem to have no meaning and some have a very unusual meaning. How some surnames do not match the person they are being used by .. and so on.

Some googling on this topic unearthed this jewel of a email thread on the subject (i quote and link) "Indian Surnames and the British influence". Makes a nice reading. My kudos to the author Arvind Kolhatkar for such a concise and to-the-point note.

(sighh.. that just makes me wish I could be equally concise) :-)
