The BBC has reported
reported that the Indian-born author Kiran Desai has won the 2006 Booker prize for her book "The Inheritance of Loss". She is the youngest female to win it.
The Booker prize, more correctly the Man Booker prize is one the worlds top literary prizes and consists of a prize money of £50,000.
Kiran is the daughter of the noted Indian author Anita Desai, who herself has been nominated for the prize three time.
